Reading at Home
Our school policy regarding reading practice is to read at home 5 times each week. Children should bring their book bags everyday so that we can read with your child in school, swap their books and check their reading challenge.
We continue with the school reading challenge if the children read regularly at home they will move up through the levels earning themselves badges. (Children love to collect the badges and display them on their reading bag).
If your child reads 5 times in one week their name will become remarkable readers and their name will go into a draw with a chance to win a book.
We will also at times send home letter/word cards for the children to practise.
PE
Year 1 pupils will start PE in September. They will need their PE kits bringing in every Monday and will take them home on a Friday to be washed. Please remember to include plasters if your child wears stud earrings and to label all of their kit with their name. If your child uses their PE kits for an after-school club please make sure they bring it back into school ready for their next PE lesson.

Children will all receive a home reading record and will now be filling it in themselves when they read. Each week the children can choose from a range of reading activities to complete once they have read. If the children complete these, they will be put into the remarkable reader prize draw.
For homework we would like children to read, learn their tables and spellings. We have also sent out logins for Times Tables Rockstars to help with this.
PE
PE Days are Monday and Wednesday.
Please can all PE kit be in school throughout the week. If any child does not have their PE kit in school on PE days, they will lose a dojo point.

Homework and Remarkable Readers
Like all other years, the expectation is reading and spelling.
Reading
Your child has been given a list of short activities which are stuck in the front of their books. They are expected to pick an activity to complete in their homework book at least TWICE a week this term. There is no expectation for parents in KS2 to sign reading records. We want the children to take ownership of their reading records as it is a working journal of their reading journey and we still want everyone to encourage them to read as much as possible. We will still be awarding books as remarkable reader prizes; but remarkable readers will be entered into the prize draw based on the activities they complete. This will be explained to the children too.
Spelling
Each week, your child will be give some spellings to learn and practise each night. It is designed to be a quick independent activity with minimal stress...it literally should take them less than 5 minutes! There is a short spelling activity to do Monday - Thursday, and then there is a spelling test on Friday. There is an information sheet stuck into homework books explaining the activities.
PE
PE Days: 5C - Monday & Wednesday
5M -
5R - Monday & Thursday
Please can all PE kit be in school every Monday. It will be sent at home on a Friday to be washed.
