At Welholme Academy we operate a house system. All children are allocated to a House when admitted to the school. Siblings are assigned to the same House. This helps to build a sense of family and team ethos.
The houses are named not just after big cats, but also after local trawlers – to reflect the fishing heritage of the town. The Ross Group was a British food company founded in Grimsby in 1920. The company's history is also Grimsby's industrial history.
The children can earn points via the Dojo system that operates in school. So, as they earn Dojo points for themselves, they are earning team points for their house at the same time. Points are also awarded for competitions and on Sports Day.
